Rhum and Cigars

Many cigar aficionados pair cigars with spirits a great combination. We will try to explore the rhum and cigars that you can sip on that will pair great together. What’s more, both cigars and rum offer subtle nuances and complex flavor profiles, making them ideal for pairing. I typically drink bourbons when I’m smoking a maduro cigar, but you can defiantly do a Connecticut cigar as well. Basically, if you’re smoking a full-bodied and earthy cigar, you should look for a drink that is also full-bodied to go with it. The second method could be used to maximize the flavors brought out in both the drink and the cigar. Essentially, choose a cigar and a drink that contrast each other in body and flavor, and they will bring out the best in each other. If you are smoking a mellow and sweeter cigar, drink a mixed drink or crafted cocktail to go with.

Diplomatico Rum Reserve Venezuela – A complex blend w/ aromas of cocoa, cinnamon, ginger. toffee, vanilla oak, perfect for a Connecticut cigar like Drew Estates Undercrown to Maduro cigar GTO Dominican Cigars La Cura. Both cigars with pair well for on the rocks, neat or with a splash of soda while you are enjoying smoking cigars.

Gosling’s Black Seal Rum Bermuda – A rich dark rum with full and intricate flavors, it is well balanced and nuanced with butterscotch, vanilla and caramel notes perfect for a Conneticut cigars like Joya Cabinetta and Leaf by Oscar. This spirit and cigar share same notes of creaminess with a touch of complexity running throughout

Barbancourt 5 Star 8 Yr Old Haiti – Made directly from sugar cane juice this would be an excellent cigar Arturo Fuente Work of Art and Foundation Tabernacle. With the spirit having notes of brown sugar, vanilla and baking spices will pair well with medium to full bodied cigars

Brugal 1888 Dominican Republic Extremely smooth and sweet with light spices and smoke. Aging brings out deep caramel and vanilla tones with faint spice. Finish is long and mellow. Perfect for cigars like La Galera Conneticut and Perdomo Lot 23 Conneticut.

Ron Barcelo Imperial Onyx Rum Dominican Republic- A rich blend of rums aged for 10 years in ex-bourbon casks. Notes of cherry, coffee, and vanilla would be an excellent choice crafted cocktail like rum and coke or Manhattan with rum instead of whiskey or on the rocks.
